We had great stay at your cozy and convenient Garden Apartment. It was a perfect location and provided excellent facilities for a two week stay while relocating back to San Francisco from China.  The apartment immediately felt like home. It was quiet yet vibrant with great access to places like the Atlas Cafe and my favorite local Mexican restaurant, El Metate. I highly recommend The SF Mission Garden Apartment to anyone who needs a true San Francisco stay.          ---Robert (April 1-15, 2010)

The apartment is so beautiful and I really enjoyed my stay here.  [The Manager] Dan was very nice and always helped us.  I used to live in San Francisco and for the first time after so many visits, I felt like I was at Home!  My recommendation: have a cup of coffee by the water in the garden.  It is so relaxing!  Thanks!    ---Mayumi (April 28-May5, 2010)

Thanks so much for sharing your amazing place with us!  It is such a wonderful location which we found so comfortable and cozy.  Your hospitality was remarkable and your suggestions were so helpful--even with the weather you insured we enjoyed San Francisco to the fullest!  Can't wait to visit again soon and stay here again!       ---L.K, "Kansas"   (May 12, 2010)

We had a great time, thanks for the wonderful abode!
El Metate was delicious and so convenient!
We can't wait to come back and hopefully enjoy ourselves even half as much.
Thanks!

My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous 14 months of traveling around the world and are staying in the Mission Garden Retreat while we readjust to life in the city.  It is an adorable little apartment, full of charm, and with a gorgeous garden all our own.  It has everything we need to live a normal life - to cook our meals, to relax, to clean up a little.  And it has the sweetest [manager] who lives in the house upstairs and is both present and also un-intruding.   I can't imagine a more ideal place for our first few weeks back in the states or a more charming landlord.  I'm almost sad to leave it in another week and a half to move into our own apartment!

This would also make a great vacation rental for someone who wants to stay in the real parts of San Francisco as opposed to the tourist centers.

Thank you very much for sharing your home with us!  We simply loved the apartment, the patio, the barbecue, the wine...We will definitely be back.  We also enjoyed the advice about the city.  Thanks to you, we really made the most of our trip!  Take care,
--Ema and Louise, Paris France (August 7-21, 2010)

We had a great stay in the Mission Garden.  It was a wonderful hideaway for my fiance and I to spend some much needed time together.  Not only did we enjoy the apartment (the art, the garden, the peace and quiet) but the neighborhood was great too!  Our restaurant recommendations to people new to the city would be:  El Metate--around the corner;  Dosa--Valencia and 19th Street (Indian food);  Osha--Valencia and 18th Street (Thai food).  All three were delicious!  Thank you to Dan and Family.  Your hospitality was the icing on the cake to an already awesome experience.  We have recommended your place to friends in the neighborhood who may need a place for visitors to stay.  And, should we need another hideaway, we will think of the Mission Garden first!  All the Best,
--Angela and Justin (September 6-27, 2010)

Mission Garden Apt. was a wonderful home base for me while visiting my baby grandson and his parents over on Capp St. The lovely garden patio in back was an added bonus.  All very cozy.  I'm sure to be back soon.  All the Best,
                                --Sally,  Gainesville FL  (Sept.28--Oct-5, 2010)

Thank you so much for the wonderful stay.  Your suggestions on what to do and what to eat were spot on.  We had El Metate at least twice!  San Francisco was amazing, but our stay was even better by staying in such an amazing part of the city and experiencing a neighborhood we only would have briefly visited otherwise.  The apartment was amazing and your hospitality was outstanding.  We know where to stay next time we are in town.
--Lane and Mary, Atlanta GA  (Oct.5--9, 2010)

For the past 3 weeks we've been able to call this lovely apartment "home."
We thank you for your friendliness and help--we have had a good holiday in San Francisco and by staying here have got to experience the "real" life of this city!     With our best wishes,
--Barry and Linda, South Africa (Oct.17--Nov.9, 2010)

Thank you for such a relaxing place to spend our brief visit to San Francisco.  We were pleased to find a relaxed, friendly neighborhood and a great apartment.  We recommend the Atlas Cafe (@ 20th Street/ Alabama St.) for breakfast and the bars on Valencia Street for night life.  (Quickest way to the city is walk to the BART station at Mission Street/ 24th Street)  All the Best,
--Joe and Ruth, Manchester, UK (Nov.17-20, 2010)

For a family that is not new to VRBO, we seem to out-do ourselves every time!  This little haven is wonderful.  The artwork, the wall colors, the Secret Garden--it is as if we have stepped out of our own lives and into new San Franciscan lives.  It suits us quite well.  Thanks to [the Manager] for being so responsive.  The time here we've spent so happy in the Mission!  Perfect surroundings for our little family--so much more to see and do.  Happy Holidays and best for a bright New Year!
--Sheila and David Eddison, Mt. Desert, Maine (Nov.20-27, 2010)

"...We enjoyed and appreciated our four week stay at the Mission Garden Retreat.  The unit's ease and efficiency launched us well each morning and its warmth and art welcomed us back in the evening.  The space was great for gathering, too.  Thank you for all your accommodation and hospitality.  We look forward to returning--perhaps during a warm stretch of SF weather to enjoy morning coffee and evening dinner outdoors..."
                           --Lucille/Peter, NJ (Dec. 2010-Jan.2011)

The SF Mission Garden Retreat offered the perfect space as I transitioned from a Bay Area homeowner to a corporate expatriate in Switzerland.  Lots of charm, excellent location, and [the Manager] was very welcoming.  If you are from out of town, make sure to pick up some Ghirardelli Chocolate!
--Will, Walnut Creek, California (Jan.30-Feb.1, 2011)

“Love this city.  Love this ‘hood.  Love this place.
Despite the rain the city shined.  We recommend the pupusaria on 24th and Harrison."

--Carr Family, Portland ,Oregon  (March 23-26th, 2011)

“We had such a great time exploring the city and love having Mission Garden Retreat as our home base--it really made our trip so much more enjoyable.   Thanks for all the recommendations and opening up your place to us!  All the best."
--Komp Family, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin (March 26-April 3, 2011)

Thanks...we had a great time in SF and loved your place!
We feel so lucky that we found this wonderful place to stay on the internet.
The MUNI-pass worked out great; getting us anywhere we wanted to go in the city: enjoying the colorful murals/ houses/ flowers and trees on the way.

--A.P. and Family, Westlong Branch, NJ   (April 17-22, 2011)

Having strolled here and there, Mission is definitely the best place, And Garden Retreat almost makes you lazy on sunny days...it is so peaceful in the garden!!  The house has everything you need, but more important, it has a charm that makes the difference.  We immediately fell for it and had a great and comfortable time here.  We can only hope we'll have the opportunity to come back some time.  Thanks a lot for this place which made us feel at home....All the best to you and your family.
            --Jacqueline, FRANCE  (August 15-23, 2011)

Thank you!  We really enjoyed our stay.  Best Sushi at Tao Yin (also has great Chinese) 3515 20th Street, San Francisco.  TaoYinRestaurantSF.com.  Delivers!
--Megan and Tritia,  Southern California (August 30-Sept.8, 2011)

We have had a wonderful time in SF and this apartment was the perfect place to call home, albeit briefly.  The art, the colors and the design really gave this place a cool, eclectic feel.  Dan gave us great recommendations like Burma Superstar and Front Porch.  In the Mission, we loved the breakfast joints like St. Francis Fountain, Atlas Cafe, and San Jalisco.  Also we enthusiastically recommend Philz Coffee if you are a caffeine fan.  There's tons of great stuff in SF that we loved like Alcatraz and Golden Gate Park (Conservatory of Flowers, De Young Museum) and Ocean Beach.  But if you're short of time, skip the tourist traps like Fisherman's Wharf--really not that great.  If you're seeking adventure, you can do what we did and drive to Yosemite for some great hikes and spectacular views (4.5 hours each way).  What we regreat is not spending enough time in the Mission.  Don't make the same mistake!  Cheers,
--Abhishek and Jody, Somervile, MA (September 15-21, 2011)

 "Garden Retreat"-------Perfect!
Your place has been a real retreat for us during our two weeks here.  So restful and quiet.....perfect decor!  So convenient for us to be just around the corner from our daughter and family.
Your family has been so gracious and hospitable--loved hearing the pitter-patter of little feet!
The Mission is such a fun place.....super walk to Bernal Heights, Twin Peaks....diverse and yummy food, El Metate, La Palma, Mission Chinese, Tartine, Pizzeria Delphina, Foreign Cinema, Dynamo Doughnuts, Arizmendi Bakery, etc.....
We've had a lovely time and hope to come here again.

We had such a great time in SF for our HONEYMOON(!), and a lot of the awesomeness was thanks to this place.  Thanks to Dan and family for creating such a peaceful, cozy and private launching pad for our SF adventures!

Great things we did and ate:
     --Breakfast at Atlas Cafe
--personal guided hike at Muir Woods (www.muirwoodstour.com--Tom is great!)
--Gracias Madre--vegan Mexican food--you won't believe it's vegan!  (Mission Street)
--Big Lantern--regular and veggie dim sum (16th Street)

Things we could have skipped:
     --Fisherman's Wharf
     --Millennium Restaurant--over-priced and unimaginative food.

Thanks again for making our trip so comfortable and special!  We will definitely be back here as soon as possible!  xo,
--Laura and Richard, Houston TX (October 30-November 4, 2011)

Absolutely wonderful stay @ the Garden Retreat.  Great neighborhood, great food;  great vibe.  El Metate is a must, just around the corner on Bryant [Street].  Taco Truck @ Harrison/22nd also a must.  We'll be back!

Warm regards--Shalom--Peace--Jackie E., NYC (Sept.3-5, 2012)

We loved this little G.H. here and had a fantastic time!
For a nice night out we'd recommend a drink at Asiento (Bryant St. and 21st St., 2 blocks from the apartment) then keep going up to Mariposa St, then turn right until to you get to the Slow Club (Mariposa St. between Hampshire/York)--yum!

Great time!
Bus 27 takes you downtown.  Walked the Golden Gate Bridge!
Don't miss the DeYoung.  Skip the Vietnamese around the corner, but definitely have the Thai food-----> SO GOOD.  Liberty Cafe in Bernal Heights is good too!  Loved everything!

This was the best birthday weekend I've ever had!  The apartment was PERFECT, a better deal and location than we would have gotten anywhere else.  I will recommend it to anyone coming to SF!
The Mission is great;  we spent hours walking around!
You Should:
  --eat bourbon&cornflakes ice-cream @ Humphry Slowcombe
--get breakfast @ St. Francis Fountain
--eat fancy brunch @ Foreign Cinema
--drink the best coffee of your life @ Philz!
--rent a car and drive to Sonoma!
Thank you so much!     --S.andA., Nashville, TN (Nov.7-12, 2012)

We had a wonderful time!  We loved the neighborhood and having so many places so close by.  The apartment is perfect--neat, clean, and the most comfortable bed ever!
I can't say enough good things about Dan.    Your hospitality was amazing!  The tips and information on the neighborhood were very helpful.  I greatly appreciate that you were able to accommodate an extra night.  You helped make my first (but not last!) trip to San Francisco most awesome!
The people here are all so kind.  On our second night here I managed to drop one of my contact lenses down the sink.  I panicked because I didn't bring any extras and forgot my glasses.  Well, I found a place (Oasis Vision) that was amazing!  Paul at Oasis Vision was able to hook me up with free trial samples of my exact lenses!  He saved my trip and helped me save a lot of $$!  I love it here!  Thanks again for everything--
--Tracy, St. Petersburg, FL (Nov.17-21, 2012)
